Brief History of Transun

Following its founding in 1982, Transun quickly became known for its high-quality travel services. A small office based out of Oxford, this group of individuals had a passion for travel that they sought to share with others. They started with specialising in travel to Yugoslavia, offering short, convenient breaks to the pristine beaches lining the Dalmatian Coast. Throughout the 1980’s, Transun expanded its offerings, developing the ability to offer convenient travel from several airports all around the UK.

The appeal of Transun’s trips was readily apparent: they could provide travellers with opportunities to travel to exciting destinations such as New York.. This type of travel was convenient and appealing for busy folks who still wanted to experience as much as possible. The 1980’s saw Transun becoming the first tour operator in the UK to offer day break flights out of Aberdeen airport, and the first to operate a flight from Norwich to New York.

The 1990’s brought more adventures and more challenges. Day breaks became one of their most popular specialties: travellers could board a flight to an enticing destination like the Norwegian fjords. They could spend the afternoon exploring and enjoying the local landscapes, then hop a flight back home in time to crawl into their own familiar beds. These day breaks were available all throughout Europe in the 1990’s, as well as exotic places like Cairo and Morocco. This time period is also when Transun developed one of its most popular programmes: a family day break to Lapland. Father Christmas was there to greet each family, making this a wonderful trip for children of all ages. This became such a popular trip that Transun expanded it into a short break in the early 2000’s.

As the 2000’s progressed, Transun established itself as a key operator to Lapland from the UK. Their catalogue of trips continued to expand to include unusual sites like Koh Samui, an island in Thailand, and the Arctic for the stunning views afforded by the northern lights. These trips are more than just vacations, they are experiences that travellers will talk about for years afterwards.
